Premium solar energy solutions provider with smartgulfsolar.com solar energy solutions? Solar energy can be used for diverse purposes. You can generate electricity (photovoltaics) or heat (solar thermal). Solar energy can be used to produce electricity in areas without access to the energy grid, to distill water in regions with limited clean water supplies and to power satellites in space. Solar energy can also be integrated into the materials used for buildings. Not long ago Sharp introduced transparent solar energy windows.

A 4kW solar panel system would require approximately 16 solar panels with a 250W power output, while a 5kW system comprises 20 solar panels. The first step is to identify your current energy consumption. You measure this in kilowatt hours (kWh), and it’s important to take the time needed to calculate this as accurately as possible. Check your electricity bills to get your power consumption (in kWh). You can either calculate month by month or add your monthly/quarterly consumption together for an annual figure. Decide on how much of your electricity bills you want to cover with your solar panels — this can be anything from 10-100%. Your decision will affect the system size and costs. Calculate how many solar panels actually fit your roof. An average solar panel takes about 1.44 m2 of roof space. Don’t forget to include at least 30cm from the roof’s edge. Adjust the system size if you realise that you don’t have enough space for all the panels you calculated.

How long do solar panels last? However, while that’s usually the case with a central inverter (which handles the output of all the panels), a newer type, the so-called ‘micro-inverters’, are installed or included with each solar panel, and are said to have a much longer lifespan (up to 25 years), and could last for decades as well.

Without energy storage, you can make good use of about 50 to 80 percent of the solar electricity for your own house. A battery can easily take that up to (almost) 100 percent. If you do not base the own consumption just on the solar generator, but on the electricity demand of the entire house, the following general rule applies: Without storage, you can meet about 30 to 50 percent your electricity demand directly from solar. In combination with a solar battery, this can be as much as 90 percent. To meet your entire electricity needs over the course of a year, you need a second generator, e.g. a cogeneration unit. It is usually simpler – and less expensive – to use the power grid. During the winter, your needs can be met through green electricity from a certified utility.

Like size, the weight of the generator depends on the wattage that it can generate. And weight also determines portability. A 2000 watt generator can be carried by one person. Yet a 5000-10,000 watt generator for home use comes with wheels or is stationary in the case of diesel units. Portability is typically not needed for an off-grid household, where a generator can be stationary. However, for trailer use, the smaller portable generators are more convenient. Note: Our household uses two 10 kW Lombardini diesel generators. They’re housed in a generator shed 50 feet from our home. We just alternate between them. Solar energy is an intermittent energy source. Access to sunlight is limited at certain times (e.g. morning and night). Predicting overcast days can be difficult. This is why solar power is not our first choice when it comes to meeting the base load energy demand. However, solar power has fewer problems than wind power when it comes to intermittence.

Smart Gulf Solar established in Dubai in 2005 to serve the United Arab Emirates in Solar Energy Solutions. Smart Gulf Solar is one of the leading companies specialized in Solar Photo- voltaic (PV) power generation in United Arab Emirates. The company has built its name on the ability to design, source, install, commission, operate and maintain Solar Power Systems and offer full turnkey solutions at com- petitive prices either in on-grid or off-grid schemes. The cutting edge technology, with machines and equipments sourced from the best in class producers, aim to help in cost leadership, scale of operations and reliability standards as per global benchmarks in Asia, Europe, Australia and North America. How Do Solar Panels Work? When speaking about solar panels, it is important to distinguish between two main types: Photovoltaic panels that produce electricity; Solar thermal panels that are used for heating purposes. Photovoltaic (PV) systems are commonly used solar panel systems in UAE. Photovoltaic systems convert sunlight directly into electricity. Solar cells are made of semiconductors, such as silicon, which absorb the sunlight and convert it into electricity. Solar cells are connected electrically and packed together in a frame, commonly known as a solar panel. When you connect multiple solar panels together, they form a solar array. And, finally, when you add the cabling, brackets, inverter, and so forth, the entire system forms your solar panel system.
